▶ Appreciation plaque and 5 million KRW worth voucher awarded to heroes who rescued mother and son with Hyundai Construction Equipment excavator
Hyundai Construction Equipment, a subsidiary of Hyundai Genuine, the intermediate holding company in the construction machinery sector of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, applauded two brave citizens who helped save the precious lives of a mother and son trapped in a fire site.
Hyundai Construction Equipment hosted a ceremonial event on Oct 12 at a construction site office located in Daejeon, Korea, and presented an appreciation plaque along with a Hyundai Construction Equipment voucher worth five million KRW that can be used for repair services or product purchasing to Hong Myung-gwang and Ko Hyun-kook, the two heroes that used a Hyundai Construction Equipment excavator to rescue a mother and son in a recent fire scene. The event was attended by Hyundai Construction Equipment Vice President Kim Yong-sung, who is in charge of Korea Sales, and other related stakeholders.
A Hyundai Construction Equipment representative mentioned, “We wanted to applaud Mr. Hong and Mr. Ko’s courage to save the lives of others’ while risking theirs’ as we knew it was not an easy decision to make,” and added, “we wanted to show some appreciation to the hidden heroes on behalf of others.”
Hong Myung-gwang, the chief at a nearby construction site, witnessed a fire spreading in a two-story building in Daejeon last Saturday and directed Ko Hyun-kook to help rescue the victims. Ko drove a 14T Hyundai Construction Equipment excavator to the fire scene himself, steered the bucket and placed it just below the second floor window and safely rescued the woman and her two-year-old son that were trapped inside the builing.
After receiving the appreciation plaque and voucher certificate, Ko Hyun-kook answered, “It was an obvious thing to do and I’m not sure whether I deserve to receive such great applause” and added, “I hope that I played a part in making the world a warmer and better place to live.” <EOD>
